Basotect® Echo Products

Basotect® G+ is an open-cell melamine resin foam with a density of approximately 9 kg/m³, making it exceptionally lightweight and easy to handle. Its light grey colour enhances resistance to soiling, making it ideal for high-traffic areas and industrial applications. The foam offers outstanding sound absorption, particularly in medium and high-frequency ranges, and complies with rigorous fire safety standards such as DIN 4102 B1 and UL 94 V-0. Produced without halogenated hydrocarbons, Basotect® G+ is environmentally friendly, meeting OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification for human-ecological safety and the European RoHS Directive for hazardous substance restrictions.

All Echo products are crafted using Basotect® G+ as the standard material. However, for specific project requirements, they can also be manufactured using Basotect® UF+ or Basotect® B. Basotect® UF+ offers enhanced elasticity for more complex designs, while Basotect® B features a pure white colour, providing high light reflectance for decorative acoustic applications.

By choosing Echo products, you invest in high-performance acoustic solutions that combine lightweight practicality, design flexibility, and environmental sustainability, ensuring compliance with stringent safety and eco standards.

Material composition Basotect® G+ is melamine resin, a thermosetting polymer derived from melamine and formaldehyde. This composition gives the foam its open-cell structure, lightweight properties, and high-performance acoustic and thermal insulation characteristics.
Fire Test

Fire Performance

Acoustic panels using a Basotect™ G+ melamine foam core are supplied as composite products, consisting of a Basotect™ acoustic core combined with a fabric finish.

Core Material Fire Rating (EN 13501-1)

The reaction-to-fire performance of Basotect™ G+ depends on the material thickness.
Independent testing to EN 13501-1 confirms the following classifications:
  • 5–15 mm: B-s1, d0
  • 6–20 mm: C-s2, d0
  • 21–80 mm: C-s2, d0
  • 81–200 mm: C-s3, d0

This indicates controlled fire behaviour, with no flaming droplets (d0) across all tested thicknesses.

(Test reports are available on request.)

Fabric Fire Ratings

A range of fire-rated acoustic fabrics is available.

As standard, fabrics supplied meet a minimum Class B fire rating, with alternative fire-rated fabrics available on request.

Fabric fire test certification can be provided upon request.

Composite System – Important Information

The complete composite system (core + fabric) is not fire tested as standard, and no declared EN 13501-1 classification is claimed for the assembled product.

As with most acoustic composite products, the final reaction-to-fire performance depends on the core thickness, fabric type, adhesive system, fixing method, substrate, and air gap, and may differ from the individual component ratings.

Where a declared reaction-to-fire classification is required, testing of the complete composite system can be arranged on request, subject to scope, lead time, and cost.

VOC emission Basotect® G+ melamine foam is engineered to meet stringent indoor air quality standards by minimizing volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. It complies with the California Specification 01350, a rigorous standard for materials used in classrooms and offices, ensuring that when 50% of the ceiling is covered with Basotect® G+ panels, the indoor air quality remains safe and healthy.

Additionally, Basotect® G+ holds the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification in product class I, indicating that it has been tested for harmful substances and is safe for direct skin contact.

Environmental
Basotect® G+ melamine foam holds several environmental certifications, underscoring its commitment to safety and sustainability:
  • OEKO-TEX® Standard 100: Certified under product class I, indicating it has been tested for harmful substances and is safe for direct skin contact.
  • RoHS Compliance: Adheres to the European Union’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive, ensuring it is free from hazardous materials like lead, mercury, and certain flame retardants.
  • California Specification 01350: Meets stringent indoor air quality standards for materials used in classrooms and offices, ensuring low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

These certifications affirm Basotect® G+ as an environmentally friendly material suitable for applications where health and ecological considerations are paramount.
